You know when… you are sitting behind someone…and you find yourself staring at the back of their head…and you start analyzing it…and then you think…if only I had some clay…

You know when…
You know when… the full grown man sitting next to you has been on the phone for the past twenty minutes… giggling like a teenage girl the whole time… and you wish you had a spoon to gouge out your own eyes because if you roll them one more time…
The Perfect Blog Post
Let me start by saying that this is not the perfect blog post. Now I’m not going to lie, sure this post wishes it was perfect. Just like how we all wish George R. R. Martin would just finish writing GOT already before he falls down and dies and leaves us all in misery. Or how I wish The Jerry Springer Show had never seen the light of day or even how I wish hairless cats weren’t so creepy. No seriously, look at it…

I mean wow! and for the record, this is one of the “cuter” ones. But hey, these are just wishes. And wishes are not horses. And even if they were, it’s not like you have a horse. So you’d probably still not have any of those things you are wishing for.
A little history
I have been ‘starting’ a blog for about two years now. I have written several completely different and pretty impressive (according to me of course) first blog posts. Every time I started a news one I completely believed it was THE ONE! It had to be, I mean… it was perfect! But then a couple days later, sometimes even a just few hours later, I realized that it wasn’t quite there.
I have read some pretty amazing posts over the past few years. One time I read about this dragon tattooed blue-eyed blonde drug smuggler and her epic adventures with this tall Irish speaking bullet-lodged-in-thigh Nigerian and I literally wanted to drop everything and join the powder business. It was all so real.
I think that’s what blogging and even writing in general is supposed to be. Content that literally turns your reader upside down. Stuff that doesn’t just teach them something, stuff that changes their way of thinking.
The search
So I went in to this mad search of what the perfect post was. I found all these great posts like this and this and even this. These are all writers giving their own idea of what blog post perfection is from the organization to the research that goes into it and even the content.
And then I took a break to watch one of my favorite videos of all time…
Wasn’t that just nice and relaxing? great!
Ok, back to what we were talking about. The perfect blog post. First of all, how do you know? Who is the judge? Is it the writer or the readers? And how is this perfection measured? By the number of likes and shares? By the satisfaction of your production as the creator? By how funny and witty it is? Or better yet, by the number of Star Wars references?
The answer
First, here is a list of the obvious things:
- A killer title is a must
- A grand opening, you gotta hook the fish
- A good understanding of the topic, usually either from good research or experience in the field. Most people can tell when you don’t know what you are talking about.
- A point. You cannot just go round in circles. Why are you writing this post? It need to be clear.
- A picture or a video, these always make people happy. Especially cute dancing lions!
- A sense of humor always goes a long way
Apart from the obvious, what really makes a blog post perfect?
The answer is in the question.
